2022 Dodge Challenger Review / Challenger SRT
An award-winning model, the Challenger took over the top spot in muscle car sales in 2021. It won the second eNVy Award in a row from InMoment. The car helped the brand earn the Best Car Styling Brand from Kelley Blue Book for the fourth year in a row.
In this 2022 Dodge Challenger review, we’ll look at the many different choices that are available as standard trims. We’ll provide the stats on the engines and performance packages.

Challenger Colors
Performance cars deserve performance style, or so it seems when you look at the Dodge menu. Dodge performance comes from the factory. Some colors are called high impact while others are called heritage hues. Some actually are both traditional and high impact.
These names are so much fun you’ll have to decide whether you like the color or the cool name that Dodge has assigned to it: F8 Green, Indigo Blue, Smoke Show, Go Mango, and Hellraisin. There are racecar colors including TorRed and Octane Red. Then there are the many other shades including Granite, Frostbite, Sinamon Stick, White Knuckle, and Triple Nickel.
Exterior styles change with each trim level. You can also choose the stripe and graphics package. If the trim is eligible for the upgrade, shoppers may apply the Widebody, Shaker, T/A or 1320 package.
Trim Levels
Few cars today come in as many distinct models as the 2022 Challenger. The SXT, GT, SXT AWD, GT AWD, and R/T are the first five. The R/T Scat Pack, and SRT Hellcat, Hellcat Redeye are next. These are offered as WideBody models, adding three more choices.
Last but not least the Super Stock is at the top of the pyramid. That’s 15 choices so far at your new Dodge Challenger dealer, but who’s counting?
Challengers remain the most spacious of all muscle cars. However, the R/T Scat Pack 1320 actually deletes the seats for a driver-focused interior. There’s also an SRT package to delete the rear seats and add a rear cargo net.
Dodge makes it easier to elevate your interior by providing the Plus package. This is how you get those wonderful ventilated leather seats. It also includes a power tilt-telescope steering column and memory-enabled power-adjustable driver’s chair.
As for Challenger color choices, the Black interior color can be offset by a caramel or ruby red. It can be traded entirely in favor of a Sepia tone or the unique Dodge Demonic Red. You can wait for a Dodge Challenger sale, but the manufacturer has priced this car to move.
Standard Performance
The SXT, GT and the related AWD trim levels have a speedy 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 under the hood. With 303 horses under the hood, this powertrain can challenge any other muscle car, pony car or sports car in its class.
Another class-best feature is all-wheel drive on the SXT and GT trims. Few rivals have this option, and even fewer can make the most of it if they do have it. This is just another reason that the Challenger is even more popular in 2022 than it was in the muscle car heyday of 1970.
R/T models claim best-in-class horsepower thanks to the 392 Hemi V8 engine at the driver’s command. A signature sound comes from the 2.7-inch electronically controlled active exhaust system.
Dodge calls the R/T Scat Pack the “most muscle per dollar”. Drivers will enjoy controlling 485 horsepower and 475 pound-feet of torque with the Tremec six-speed manual transmission on this Dodge Challenger for sale.
The Scat Pack adds SRT drive modes that are standard on Dodge Challenger Hellcat editions. This includes Sport, Track, Default, and Custom modes. SRT Hellcat Performance
Challenging gravity, the SRT Hellcat has a supercharged 6.2-l high output engine. This HEMI V-8 is tuned for 717 horsepower. Controlled by the Tremec manual transmission, this powertrain is a blast to drive. 2022 Dodge Challenger Hellcat buyers can option either the standard automatic or the heavy duty 8 speed automatic transmission.
Proving that more is always possible, the SRT Hellcat Redeye powertrain is a high-output V8 capable of 787 horsepower. Its TorqueFlite 8HP90 is a robust 8-speed automatic transmission that is so heavy duty that it is also mated to the Super Stock model.
The SRT Super Stock cranks output up to 807 horsepower with its supercharged 6.2L high output HEMI engine. It’s hard to think of this as a production car when you see what it can do.
Available as options on the other SRT models, Super Stock models have Launch Control, Line Lock, and Torque Reserve as well as Power Chiller and Race Cooldown. These last two features can manage powertrain heat without sacrificing performance.
2022 SRT Super Stock Stats
Considered the most powerful muscle car on the market, the 2022 Dodge Challenger SRT Super Stock Performance is truly the quickest starter and mover on the track. It zooms around the track with a top speed of 168 miles per hour. It can make the quarter mile in 10.5 seconds at the slow speed of 131 miles per hour.
When accelerating from zero, it can hit 60 miles per hour in just 3.25 seconds. Shifting weight to the rear tires, the Bilstein adaptive damping suspension creates maximum traction for quick starts. Helping it maintain the road, Dodge has equipped it with an asymmetrical limited-slip differential.
In track mode, shock tuning is altered to assist the car’s drag radials. These 315/40R18 Nitto NT05R tires are fronted by lightweight 18-inch wheels. Aware that it must stop, Dodge equips it with the latest in lightweight Brembo calipers and gives it massive 14.2 inch vented rotors.
Widebody Advantages
The Widebody is a favorite that can now be applied to more Challenger trims. The overall size is 3.5 inches wider than the regular 2022 Dodge Challenger. A Widebody style is available with the SRT Hellcat, Hellcat Redeye, and R/T Scat Pack edition.
All Widebody models gain 20-inch-by-11-inch lightweight aluminum wheels. Choosing this style also adds SRT Drive modes to the R/T Scat Pack edition. Tires are sticky 305/35ZR20 Pirelli radials.
The R/T Scat Pack Widebody gains features from higher trims. This includes the larger adaptive damping suspension to absorb bumps and make the car more responsive to the driver's commands. A performance shift indicator is added to the driver’s cockpit. Brembo six-piston brakes are utilized to ensure safe stops.
R/T Scat Pack 1320
As you may already know, the R/T Scat Pack is popular among driving enthusiasts. It is aimed at people who want to personalize their performance with the things that matter the most to them.
To help with that, Dodge has added the R/T Scat Pack 1320. The number represents the number of feet in a quarter mile.
This drag-oriented muscle car can handle 1,320 feet in just 11.70 seconds at 115 miles per hour. The naturally aspirated powertrain in this street-legal ride is certainly the fastest in any showroom.
Like all R/Ts, the package starts with the 392 HEMI V-8 engine and its 485 horsepower. To make more of it, the package adds a Drag Mode and Torque Reserve technology.
Riding on special drag radials, it has a performance-tuned differential, Launch Assist, Line Lock, and TransBrake technology. Among its upgrades, it is built with extreme-duty components such as its 41-spline rear axle half shafts, Brembo performance brakes, and SRT-tuned 3-mode adaptive dampers.
Notable Packages
The T/A Package is one way to personalize your Challenger straight from the factory. It has a painted Satin Black hood and a wrapped Satin Black roof. The decklid and spoiler are also Satin Black.
A Mopar cold-air intake system is one of its performance enhancements. The lit Air Catcher headlamps are its most distinctive night time feature. The interior has white gauges with Gloss Black trim rings.
On the R/T and R/T Scat Pack, the Shaker Package adds its legendary hood with its distinctive cold-air intakes. With the R/T, the look is changed further by a black grille surround up front and a black spoiler at the rear. There are other exterior touches including a black fuel door.
