2022 Dodge Charger Review

The Dodge Charger SXT driver commands 292 horsepower and 260 lb-ft of torque, compliments of a Pentastar V6. The SXT AWD, GT and GT AWD trim levels have a retuned engine that creates 300 horsepower and 264 pound-feet of torque. Reducing heat, it has a unique cold-air induction system. A sport-tuned exhaust system adds to the capability.

While one probably won’t tow with the Charger, it is nice to know it can handle up to 1,000 pounds. Also, the RWD models offer good fuel economy. The V6 can earn 30 miles per gallon on the highway.

With the 5.7L Hemi V-8, the output is 370 horsepower and 395 pound-feet. This powertrain is standard on the R/T. The Scat Pack editions have a best-in-class naturally aspirated HEMI. It generates 485 horsepower.

The Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat has a supercharged 6.2-liter V8 that produces 717 horsepower and 650 pound-feet of torque. The 2022 Dodge Charger Hellcat Redeye has a High-Output V8 that produces 797 horsepower and 707 pound-feet of torque.

Even more dynamic, the Dodge Charger SRT Jailbreak has a supercharged V8 that generates 807 horsepower. This trim is perhaps the most customizable Charger ever with so many exterior and interior choices. There are TorqueFlite 8-speed automatics designed to match each engine. Rear wheel drive train is standard on all but the SRT AWD and GT AWD models at your Dodge Charger dealer.

SRT Drive Modes, also available on the Scat Pack, tailor the driving experience to the driver’s customized settings. There are also special Sport and Track settings.

Depending on which model, there are many different special features. For instance, the automatic transmission has a torque converter lock. This system has a turbine torsional damper for low-lock up speeds. A four-mode traction control system includes street, sport and traction.

An asymmetrical limited-slip is a standard performance feature on the HEMI V8. The Race Cooldown technology allows the driver to leave the radiator fan and intercooler water pump on to reduce heat. The SRT Power Chiller redirects air refrigerant to chill the coolant.

A performance hood has a functional hood scoop for air induction. Another performance hood includes heat extractors as well as the functional air induction feature.

Traditional Style

For starters, the overall roominess is a surprise to those who are accustomed to performance cars with small back seats. The back row easily fits up to 3 people in comfort.

The interior volume is 104.7 cubic feet. Legroom is 40.1 inches on the second row with adequate knee clearance, shoulder room, and hip room. Cargo volume is 16.5 cubic feet.

On the Dodge Charger for sale, standard features include an 8-way power chair for the driver and a 4-way power passenger chair. The popular Plus package adds a number of important details. Technology includes an 8.4-inch touchscreen display and a 6-speaker Alpine system.

Wide Body Style

For a different muscle car experience, the Wide Body is 3.5 inches wider. The width is achieved through fender flares. The front and rear fascias are connected by side sills. The length is about 2 inches longer than the SXT models.

The SRT Hellcat, Hellcat Redeye and SRT Jaibreak come standard with a widebody style, and the Scat Pack offers it as an option.

Wide Body models have an SRT-tuned Bilstein damper system. This adaptive system has three modes to provide the kind of grip needed in speedy situations. A mail-slot grille routes cold air to the radiator.

Colors and More

The Charger can be as sedate as any other sedan, but the color choices have wonderful names like Triple Nickel, White Knuckle, Frostbite and Smoke Show. There are also vibrant colors like TorRed, Sinamon Stick, and Indigo Blue. Other colors include Go Mango, Hellraisin and Octane Red. Dual center stripes are available in carbon, gunmetal, silver, red, and blue.

The interior is either primarily black or it is black combined with a secondary color. These include two different reds, Houndstooth, and Sepia. Interior accents may be rendered in such unique materials as carbonite, dark engine turn aluminum and real carbon fiber.

Regular cloth may be upgraded to performance cloth, Houndstooth cloth or ventilated Nappa leather. Alcantara or Dinamica may be used with Nappa or Laguna leather.

Value

When it comes to value, the Dodge Charger is a good buy. The 2020 model year saw the brand ranked #1 Brand in Initial Quality. The brand ranked #1 in the APEAL Study, also from JD Power.
