2022 Jeep Cherokee Review | Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk Explained

Cherokee Colors and Trim Levels
You’ve got quite a rainbow when you choose the Cherokee for sale. Colors include Billet Silver, Bright White, Sting Gray, Diamond Black Crystal, and Granite Crystal. The brightest colors include Hydro Blue, Slate Blue, and Velvet Red.
The Cherokee is available as the Latitude LUX, the Trailhawk, and the Limited. The new X 4x4 is the most affordable off-roader in the Cherokee stable.
What’s New for 2022?
The Cherokee has been updated for the new model year. This is the first year that the UConnect 4C touch screen is standard across the lineup. This system starts faster, processes data better, and displays graphics in a higher resolution.
Onlookers will notice a new front design, including the premium bi-LED projector headlights and front fascia. The hood is a lightweight aluminum to reduce curb weight. The Jeep waterfall grille more closely aligns with brand style.
Lightweight composite has been applied to the rear construction and power liftgate. A refined suspension package helps take the bumps out of the ride. If you are shopping for compact SUVs, you will find this Jeep has the refinement you want.
Specifications
The Cherokee is a spacious 2-row crossover with 40.3 inches of second-row legroom. Interior volume is 128 cubic feet. The available rear seat option can slide forward and back to add legroom or cargo space as needed.
Cargo volume is 25.8 cubic feet. However, it can be expanded to 54.7 cubic feet with the folding second row seats. Cargo standards include tie-down loops and a 2-position floor. Total payload is 1,000 pounds.
Despite its large size, curb weight is now just 3,710 pounds. This helps it make more out of every horse under the hood. The turning ratio is a sharp 18.8 feet.
Cherokee X Model
An all new trim, this is a rugged 4x4 Jeep with new graphics and a special front fascia. It gets the more advanced engine, all terrain tires, alloy wheels, and a 1-inch lifted suspension. Rain-sensitive wipers and deep-tint sunscreen glass are standards. Glass-black roof rails can be used with MoPar accessories.
The seats combine a handsome cloth and premium vinyl. There is a special liquid-titanium trim matched with vinyl door trim panels. The X can gain amenities through the comfort and convenience group, the sun sound and navigation group, the technology group and/or the premium leather package.
Latitude LUX Model
The Latitude LUX is a front-wheel drive on-road-oriented Jeep Cherokee for sale. Life is easier with a power liftgate and a universal garage door opener. Drivers will appreciate a new 7-inch full-color thin-film transistor display and auto-dimming rearview mirror.
In addition to these new standards, the LUX lives up to its name with plenty of amenities.
The cabin has ambient lighting and leather-trimmed bucket seats. The front seats are heated, and the driver has an 8-way power chair. The air conditioning is regulated by a dual-zone automatic temperature. It gains a second-row rear-console USB port.
The exterior has special sill cladding and chrome grille-surrounds. It has standard LED fog lights. The Elite Package adds ventilated seats, GPS navigation, second-row heated seats, and more.
Cherokee Trailhawk and Limited Trim Levels
Trailhawk trims stand taller than other Cherokees and has plenty of equipment to go off road. This includes multiple skid plates, a heavy-duty engine cooler, and Jeep Active Drive Lock. The exterior wears a black hood decal, off road sills, off road wheel flares, and available Mopar Rock Rails.
While not all of the LUX standards are standard on the Trailhawk, most of them are. The bucket seats are covered in premium vinyl with red stitched accents. There are additional interior lights in the door handles and map pockets to go with the interior ambient lighting.
Limited editions wear premium leather on the bucket seats. In addition to a rich black, the leather is available in black and ski gray combination. Ventilated seats, UConnect navigation, and other amenities are available.
Performance Choices
A 2-liter I-4 turbo earns 31 mpg fuel economy with regular unleaded fuel. The output is 270 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque. Towing capacity is 2,000 pounds.
The V6 output is 271 horsepower and 239 pound-feet of torque. This engine can pull a best-in-class 4,500 pounds. Yet it can earn up to 29 mpg.
These engines are controlled by a clever nine-speed automatic transmission. Engine stop-start reduces fuel waste when at red lights.
Active grille shutters keep the engine cool and help improve aerodynamics. Underbody aerodynamic treatments add to the ability of the Cherokee to slip through the wind.
Drivertrains
The Latitude LUX has front-wheel drive, but all wheel drive is available. The Trailhawk, Limited and new X have a four-wheel drive system. With a class-leading rear-axle disconnect, the 4x4 can revert to front-wheel drive for a more fuel efficient ride.
Affordable X and ritzy Limited trims have Jeep Active Drive I. Trailhawk trims have Jeep Active Drive II with its locking rear axle and additional off-road assistance.
Jeep Selec-Terrain is a five-mode traction control system. In addition to automatic and Sport, it has snow, sand/mud, and rock modes. The top crawl ratio is 51:1.
UConnect Touch Technology
The UConnect system includes Apple Carplay and Google Android Auto. A free trial is included for the 4G LTE Wi-Fi connectivity.
With UConnect NAV, the buyer gets 12 months of SiriusXm Guardian. This system includes Roadside Assistance and SOS direct call subscriptions. A related mobile app lets you or an assistant send directions to the navigation screen. It includes remote start assistance to complement the keyless entry.
Safety and Driver Assistance
Jeep packs 8 airbags in the cabin and provides an enhanced accident-response system. There are many ways that the Cherokee tries to work with the driver to keep the vehicle out of harm’s way.
A full-speed forward collision warning system can trigger automatic braking. A lane departure system includes an assist. Additionally, the blind spot monitor includes a rear cross traffic system. Other available systems include adaptive cruise control, side distance warning, and Hill Descent Control.
The Rear Park-Assist system, standard on Lux and higher trims, has an automatic rear braking system. The parking options include an advanced parallel and perpendicular park system.
