Jeep Renegade

The Renegade Sport is a front-wheel drive model with available four-wheel drive. Latitude, Limited and Trailhawk trim levels have one of Jeep’s 4x4 systems. There are also submodels such as the Altitude and the brand new (RED) package.

Exterior colors have fun names like Bikini and Colorado Red. There’s also Slate Blue, Sting-Gray, Graphite Gray, Alpine White, and Black Clear Coat.

Interior colors generally start with a black base such as Trespass Black cloth or rich black leathers. This is combined with special Grillz accents on many models. Some models offer Ski Gray leather in combination with black.

The Sport interior has athletic bucket seats, push button start, and soft touch door trim. The passenger volume for this subcompact SUV is significant at 100 cubic feet. Cockpit technologies include dual-zone automatic climate controls and the UConnect infotainment system.

All of this advanced tech is remarkable at the Renegade’s low entry price. This system includes Apple CarPlay and Google Android Auto that most smartphone users need. Infotainment sources are fully covered with HD Radio and GPS navigation.

The Latitude upgrades to a premium cloth with two color scheme choices. Ambient interior lighting, deep tint glass, roof rails, 17-inch aluminum alloys, and cornering fog lamps are standard. Building off of the Latitude, the Jeep Renegade Altitude adds deluxe cloth upholstery, a black headliner, gloss black interior accents, and high-back bucket seats. Exterior upgrades include handsome 18-inch Gloss-black wheels and trim-specific grille rings, mirrors, and turn bezels.

The exciting new (RED) edition is on a mission to bring awareness of the Global Fund and its mission to fight global health emergencies. This model is based on the Latitude but it has exclusive Colorado Red mirror caps and 19-inch Granite Crystal aluminum wheels. The black seats have a distinctive Ski Gray stitching. Adding a Trailhawk touch, a Ruby Red speaker and red vent bezels are standard.

Limited models also have a black-painted roof, standard rain-sensing wipers, and available 19-inch Diamond-Cut aluminum alloys. Leather upholstery adds extra softness to the Limited seats. A dual panoramic sunroof and many other fine features are available for the cabin.

Performance

A MultiAir I-4 turbo powers the Renegade with enough capability to ensure off-road adventures. The engine produces 177 horsepower and a load-moving 210 pound-feet of torque. With four-wheel drive, towing capacity is up to 2,000 pounds.

Sport fuel economy is 32 mpg on the highway. In the city, an Engine Stop/Start system cuts fuel use during long waits. A nine-speed automatic transmission coordinates the action.

4x4 Drivetrains and Off-Roading

Most 4x4 Renegades have Jeep Active Drive. This full-time system knows when it is needed and when it isn’t. To save fuel, it wisely disconnects both the Power Transfer Unit and the rear axle. This segment-exclusive capability enhances its fuel economy.

Selec-Terrain provides four standard modes, including sand, snow, and mud. The Trailhawk 4x4 system adds a Rock mode. This trail-rated edition can claim best-in-class off-road capability as well as the best approach and departure angles.

Jeep Renegade Trailhawk Models

2022 Renegade Trailhawks are recognizable by a hood decal, red tow hooks, and a black-painted roof. It has additional skid plates to handle more aggressive off-roading. This is the Trail-Rated edition of the Renegade, and it is a class leader in its segment.

Utilizing Jeep Active Drive Low, Renegade Trailhawks have a 21:1 crawl ratio and 8.1 inches of wheel articulation. Ground clearance is 8.7 inches, and water fording capability is up to 19 inches.

Building on the Latitude trim, interior standards include an 8-way power driver’s chair, a 7-inch TFT color display, and heated front seats. Trailhawks have special Ruby Red interior accents as well as Trailhawk logos and badging to further differentiate this Renegade from the others in the lineup.

Cargo Capability

A segment leader, the Renegade has a fold-flat passenger seat to accommodate longer items and provide flexible hauling space. A split 60/40 second-row bench offers flexibility. The 40/20/40 split bench on the Trailhawk and Limited allows for a pass through for long items such as skis.

The basic cargo volume is 18.5 cubic feet. A height adjustable floor and cargo tie-downs are standards. When the second row is folded, cargo volume expands to 50.8 cubic feet.

Open Air Capability

While nothing can match the Jeep Wrangler or Gladiator for open air driving, Jeep makes sure the Renegade comes close. It has a very large dual pane panoramic sunroof. When the front is open, it certainly feels more like a convertible than it would with an average sunroof.

Part of the Sun and Sound package, the panoramic roof is an inexpensive addition to the Latitude, Altitude, (RED) edition, or Trailhawk. It is standard on the Jeep Renegade Limited.

A 650-watt premium audio system is included when the Renegade driver chooses the Sun and Sound package.

Safety and Driver Assistance

As you’d expect from an SUV of this caliber, the Renegade has many essential driver assistance features. The standard lane departure warning has an assist, and the forward collision warning includes an emergency auto brake.

A blind spot monitoring system watches the sides to help drivers make safe lane changes. Cross path detection watches for cars coming from the side when the Renegade is in reverse. Trailhawk and Limited models have standard rain-sensing wipers. The UConnect App has family drive alerts. This allows parents to monitor their teen driver.
