2024 Dodge Charger Daytona Review: The Newest Dodge Daytona is Like No Other Before It
The 2024 Dodge Charger Daytona arrives, pushing the boundaries of muscle car performance and electrifying style. This exciting new ride is just like its predecessors in spirit, and yet it’s nothing like anything ever produced by Dodge to date.
That’s because this new vehicle is a first-of-its-kind electric muscle car. With incredible power, this audacious new sedan will rival the Charger Hellcat Redeye.
Is this the right EV for you? Keep scrolling to find out in this Dodge Daytona Charger review.
Electric Performance
As the first of their generation to be released, the 2024 Dodge Charger Daytona will come in R/T and Scat Pack varieties. Adding to their value, Dodge includes its Direction Connection package with a PowerShot boost button on the steering wheel. Line Lock, Launch Control, and Dodge-exclusive Race Prep are on the menu.
Before we get into how fast these rides are, let’s talk about their electric credentials. One can go more than 317 miles on a single electric charge. The other can go up to 260 miles. Adding to their clout as true EVs, these driving ranges are achieved despite the fact that all-wheel drive is standard.
R/T models can achieve 496 horsepower with the PowerBoost. This gives you an extra 40 horsepower for up to 15 seconds. That’s how it achieves such fast takeoffs and handles high-speed maneuvers with ease.
The incredible Scat Pack models can rush from zero to sixty mph in as little as 3.3 seconds. That’s because the electric powertrain creates as much as 670 horsepower.
Ready to take on the previous Demon Hellcat, the track, this Charger has front and rear electric motors. Each one can respond with the push of an estimated 330 horsepower and 300 lb-ft of torque. It’s easy to see why this ride is so fast when both motors are working together.
Unique Charger Daytona Construction
Adding to the 2024 Charger Daytona’s capability, Dodge has created a rigid structure with near perfect weight distribution. The models are built on a new platform specially designed for their size and their battery electric configuration. Unique to Dodge, a rear 4-link suspension geometry controls body roll during high-speed cornering.
These electric cars provide their drivers with satisfying performance braking response by using Brake by Wire eBoost. Drivers will notice how normal the pedal feedback is, unlike that of many EVs. During deceleration, it works continuously to balance high-speed braking needs with the system’s regenerative braking.
The Scat Pack offers a Track package with the biggest brakes ever. These 16-inch Brembo vented rotors are perfect for high-speed stops. Also, the package adds staggered front and rear tires. These can be tuned separately to provide maximum lateral acceleration up front and stability at the rear.
With the Scat Pack, driving modes include Drift, Drag and Donut as well as Track. This package can be further enhanced by a dual-valve semi-active suspension. With a valve dedicated to compression and another dedicated to rebound, the system can take more punishment while communicating more confidence to the driver.
A New Size, A New Look
The Daytona Charger boasts an aggressive, aerodynamic design that pays homage to its racing heritage. However, it now comes in a big two-door coupe. You can expect four-door models to be released in 2025.
A large hatch adds to the car’s glass greenhouse. This helps open it up to more light and give it a more spacious feeling. Even better, the somewhat hidden hatch leads to a cargo hold rather than a trunk. Owners can take advantage of 38.5 cubic feet of space for their gear. Up front, there’s also a frunk, measuring 1.5 cubic feet.
The roof is offered in black as a sporty contrast to your choice of exterior colors. A large glass roof is the alternative, and it is an exciting way to add to the muscle car’s athletic credentials.
An exclusive R-wing sets the Charger Daytonas apart from the gas models (available in 2025).
Dodge DNA is evident in the full-width front lighting, the laser-etched logos in the headlights, and the ring of fire tail lamps. Buyers will choose from colors rich with personality, such as Redeye, Bludicrous, and Peel Out.
Introducing Fratzog
The Fratzog logo itself isn’t new. This made its debt with the 1962 Dodge Polara 500, and it hung around until 1976. The logo itself is an equilateral triangle created from three forms. Some will call those forms deltas, and others may call them arrowheads.
Deltas are a symbol of engineering, and the Fratzog triangle itself was a throwback to a time when the Dodge symbol was two triangles. Those two triangles represented the Dodge brothers who created the brand.
At any rate, this 1960s symbol resonated because it evoked aerospace themes at a time when Americans were first going into space. So that futuristic aerospace theme is certainly a logical choice for the new Dodge EVs.
The word Fratzog was created by a designer and is exclusively connected to Dodge muscle cars. The symbolic name has been applied to the new Fratzonic Exhaust System.
With Fratozonic on board, the Dodge Charger Daytonas can sound like the Hellcat Demons they are replacing. On the track, the artificial exhaust sound system will change with your driving modes. So you can drag, drift or do donuts and hear the sounds you’d expect from this classic muscle car.
Exciting New Interior
With all the changes to the powertrains and the exterior, it was essential that Dodge update the interior as well. Dual screens, including a wide-format touchscreen, are part of this car’s advanced cockpit.
The most surprising aspect is the way the instrument panel mimics the 1968 Dodge Charger while managing to maintain the right proportions and modern look. Designers have combined sculpted elements and textures to achieve this unique design.
Unique to the Dodge Daytona Charger, there’s a pistol-grip shifter on the center console. The steering wheel has a flat top and flat bottom, adding more visual interest to the cockpit.
Stretching 270 degrees from the driver’s door across the dash, Attitude Adjustment is the name of a new 64-color lighting scheme. These ambient lights can be programmed to suit your personality and are easily changed on a whim. The colors become more intense to match your speed.
