2024 Dodge Durango Review

For the 2024 model year, there are a variety of powertrains and performance enhancements on the menu. You can go for the standard look or transform the Durango with available exterior elements ranging from an SRT performance hood to a special throwback color.

Starting with the most affordable base SXT trim level, all models now have standard blind spot monitoring to watch for side collision dangers. If shoppers add the trailer tow group, they can have the new trailer detect function. This extends the blind spot monitor to cover the tandem trailer.

For the second time in a row, the Dodge Durango took home the Vincentric Best Value in America Award for its Large SUV segment. In fact, Dodge was named the Best Value in America in the SUV/Van Brand category.

The Dodge Durango offers a best-in-class towing capability of 8,700 pounds. For 2024, Dodge is making that available on more models by offering the Tow N Go Package to the Citadel and R/T trim levels.

With this package, the Durango Citadel and Durango R/T will have a special tow drive mode to assist drivers. Other fun modes include Track, Snow and Sport. Trailer sway control is standard on all Durango 3 row SUVs.

The trailer-tow equipment includes a Class IV hitch receiver, and an integrated trailer brake switch. To take care of the engine, there’s a heavy-duty oil cooler. To assist the Durango with shouldering the load, Dodge adds rear load-leveling shocks.

Durango curb appeal comes from its iconic muscled style. A sculpted hood sits atop a girl that seems to flow into the headlights. With their slim design, these lamps add personality to the front end.

Exterior color choices include two scarlet choices: Red Oxide and Octane Red. There are the standards like DB Black, White Knuckle and Triple Nickel as well as other cool hues like Destroyer Grey, Night Moves, and Frostbite.

SRT Styling includes a performance front fascia and a distinctive hood scoop. This style is now available on the R/T and Citadel. Evoking its interior’s high style, the Citadel dresses up with platinum chrome accents and satin carbon wheels Bright chrome tips highlight the model’s dual exhaust.

For the SXT, GT and Citadel, the standard is a Dodge 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 engine. This unit cranks out 295 horsepower and 260 lb-ft of torque. Its towing capacity is an ample 6,200 pounds.

Rear-wheel drive takes advantage of this SUV’s nearly 50:50 weight distribution. Handling and ride quality are assured by the premium performance suspension.

Specially calibrated to match the engine power, a special 8 speed automatic transmission takes into account a wide variety of variables. TorqueFlite engineering helps the engine deliver the maximum torque to all four wheels. Steering wheel paddle shifters let drivers shift like its a manual transmission.

On the R/T trim level, a Dodge 5.7-liter HEMI V-8 cranks out 390 lb-ft of torque, It delivers best-in-class 360 horsepower. Fuel saver technology can trim back to a four-cylinder mode to reduce fuel consumption when the power isn’t needed. With the Tow N Go package, this V8 can deliver the top tow rating of 8,700 pounds.

The 2024 Dodge Durango SRT 392 cranks out 475 horsepower and 470 lb-ft of torque. To make more of its capability, the SRT hood has a center air inlet with dual heat extractors. It also offers the best-in-class tow rating.

More like a muscle car than a 3 Row SUV, a Durango SRT 392 can do the 0-60 mph sprint in just 4.4 seconds. These full size SUVs can handle the quarter-mile in 12.9 seconds. Like the standard V8 engine, it has cylinder deactivation to save fuel.

At the top of the trim ladder, the 2024 Durango SRT Hellcat can do the quarter-mile in 11.5 seconds and zoom from zero to 60 mph in just 3.5 seconds. This supercharged 6.3-L HEMI Hellcat V8 engine produces a top speed of 180 mph.

Drivers command 710 horsepower and 645 lb-ft of torque. You won’t find anything this fun in other full size SUVs like the Honda Pilot, Ford Explorer, or Hyundai Palisade.

Both Durango SRT models have standard all-wheel drive. This can make even more of that 50:50 weight distribution.

For 2024, a redesigned cockpit angles the touchscreen toward the driver and provides seat memory switches in the front door upper panel. Bright accents add to the sporty feeling of the integrated toggle switches.

The instrument panel mid-bolster is wrapped for softness and accent-stitched for extra style. There’s more softness and special stitching on other elements, such as the center console.

This racy SUV has black as its standard interior color. However, that can be dressed up with Vitra Grey or one of these scarlet hues: Radar Red, Ebony Red or Demonic Red. Other fun aspects include the Dodge stripes on the Citadel front-seat upholstery.

SXT and GT cockpits have an 8.4-inch UConnect touchscreen while the higher trims step up to a 10.1-inch touchscreen. Either way, drivers have Apple Carplay and Android Auto.

The more advanced UConnect5 adds TomTom navigation and SiriusXM Radio connectivity. Unique to the Dodge Durango, the Uconnect5 screen has black and red accents. You can utilize Alexa with the Uconnect LTE Wi-Fi package.

These full size SUVs have three rows of seating on all models but the base SXT. Passenger volume is 141 cubic feet. Second row legroom is an ample 38 inches.

Durango GT and R/T models offer 7 seats or 6 seats with center-row captain’s chairs. The Citadel and both SRT models have the 6-seat layout.

Both front seats are power-heated in all models. Citadel models add ventilated front seats and handsome Nappa leather upholstery. This model also adds power-heated second row seats.

Durango SRT Hellcats offer a Plus Package with Laguna leather seats or a Premium packa ge with a leather-wrapped instrument panel and special carbon fiber accents. The Harman Kardon premium audio system surrounds passengers with 19 speakers.

There’s a full suite of driver aids for Durango shoppers. This includes adaptive cruise control, a favorite with Phoenix AZ commuters. Watching the road ahead, there’s a forward collision warning that can trigger active braking.

Keeping an eye on the sides, a blind spot monitor helps you know when to change lanes. A lane departure warning is paired with lane keep assist. As mentioned, a new, more advanced blind spot monitor can watch the trailer.

Rear cross path detection is ready to warn you if there are cars coming from the left or right when the Durango is backing out.
