Performance

Critics agree that the Compass is one of the most muscular in its class. It’s the combination of a good engine and its adventure readiness. All-wheel drive can cope with weather problems and take this small SUV further than the typical crossover can go off the pavement.

In comparison, the 2025 Mazda CX-30 in Phoenix has a weaker engine. Its attempt to be sporty results in a firmer ride that passengers won’t appreciate. To enjoy the more typical Mazda performance, the driver will need to upgrade to the available turbo.

Even then, the Compass enjoys the best power outlay. Using its 9-speed automatic transmission, the driver controls 200 horsepower and 211 lb-ft of torque. Meanwhile, CX-30 uses a 6-speed automatic transmission to control 191 horsepower and 186 lb-ft of torque.

    Size and Spaciousness

The 2025 Mazda CX-30 claims a passenger volume of 94 cubic feet, which is more typical of a car. Meanwhile, the Jeep Compass claims 100 cubic feet, a full six cubes bigger. It’s no wonder one critic calls the Mazda a “tiny” SUV.

Does this matter? Well, it allows the Jeep SUV to claim more legroom. It has two extra inches on the second row where it counts the most.

As for cargo space, the CX-30 has only 20 cubes while the Compass has 27 cubes. That’s about one-fifth larger. The difference grows to 14 cubes, a difference of about 25 percent. Spaciousness

The CX-30 door openings can make it hard to climb in and out of. In fact, rear visibility is more difficult due to the smaller rear window and the extra-thick rear pillar.

    Off-Road Capability

Both vehicles have all-wheel drive. However, only Jeep has Active Drive. This was developed by Jeep to be a lightweight yet effective 4xx4 system. It forms the basis of this Jeep’s ability to leave the pavement.

Active Drive is a fully automatic system. It electronically detects which wheels need torque to keep it moving smoothly on the road or on the trail.

Plus only the Compass has standard Selec-Terrain. This Jeep system has a sand and mud mode to help you through difficult terrain. With the Compass Trailhawk, Jeep adds a 20:1 rock mode.  Spaciousness

Trailhawks stand taller with off-road tires and an extra inch of ground clearance. It also has skid plates and other protective gear to allow drivers to make use of its exceptional off-road equipment. More Fun Ahead

Whether you look at performance, capability or the sheer fun factor, it’s obvious that the Jeep Compass should be first on your list. It’s certainly the best choice for second-row passengers and frequent travelers.
