2026 Ram 1500 Review

The 5.7L HEMI V8 is back for 2026, responding directly to customer feedback and demand. This engine produces 395 horsepower and 410 lb-ft of torque. 

Its proven eTorque mild-hybrid system is standard equipment. This 48-volt system provides up to 130 lb-ft of additional torque on throttle tip-in, along with seamless start-stop functionality and brake energy regeneration.

Each HEMI-powered 2026 Ram 1500 includes a special "Symbol of Protest" badge on the fender, created by the Ram design team to acknowledge customer loyalty to the V8 engine. The badge shows the Ram's head pushing forward, powered by a HEMI V8 block.

While the Hurricane engines offer superior power and efficiency numbers, the HEMI provides the unmistakable sound and emotional connection that many truck buyers demand. Maximum towing capacity with the HEMI reaches 11,470 pounds, with payload capacity up to 1,750 pounds.

The Hurricane Straight-Six Turbo (SST) engines remain the technical stars of the lineup, delivering impressive power while maintaining efficiency. SST engines outperform traditional V8s in pure numbers while requiring less fuel. Industry reviews consistently praise these powerplants for their smooth delivery and refined operation.

Depending on cab-bed configuration and engine choice, the maximum tow rating reaches up to 11,580 pounds. Payload ratings can be up to 2,300 pounds, making this a true workhorse.

The standard 3.0L inline-six twin-turbo generates 420 horsepower and 469 lb-ft of torque. That's definitely power worthy of any full-size truck, achieved using cutting-edge technology and extra-strong engine components.

Taking performance up another notch, the high-output SST produces 540 horsepower with an accompanying 521 lb-ft of torque. This engine pairs with larger axle gears to maximize its capability potential.

The Ram Express is back for 2026, targeting customers who want an unmatched combination of attitude and value. Starting at $44,495 including destination, the Express represents one of the best values in the Ram 1500 lineup.

Available in both Crew Cab and Quad Cab body styles with 2WD or 4WD drivetrains, the Express is powered by the 3.6L Pentastar V6 (305 horsepower). However, it also offers engine upgrades.

Ram Express trucks sport a menacing, badgeless monochromatic paint scheme with gloss black grille surrounds and body-color front and rear bumpers. Key features include 20-inch wheels, adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking, and black-bezel LED headlamps. 

Kicking things up another notch, the Black Express package is back.  This popular package historically accounted for more than 20% of Ram 1500 production when previously offered.

Ram Black Express trucks offer even more attitude with a sport hood, black badging,and black 20-inch wheels. Favorite features include side steps and LED fog lamps. 

The truck’s upgraded interior features black cloth bucket seats, 7-inch gauge cluster, and floor console. 

The Pentastar eTorque V6 remains standard on Tradesman, Express, Warlock, Big Horn, and Lone Star trims, keeping initial costs manageable while providing solid performance. The Hurricane SST and HEMI V8 are both available as options on these lower trims.

For 2026, the Hurricane SST comes standard on Laramie and Rebel trims, with the HEMI V8 available as a $1,200 option. On Limited and Longhorn models that previously had the high-output Hurricane as standard, the HEMI is now a no-charge option.

The 2026 Ram Rebel continues combining off-road capability with the Hurricane twin-turbo engine, featuring a 1-inch lift for enhanced ground clearance and aggressive Duratrac tires. Bilstein monotube dampers help the suspension handle extra work, while a rear electronic locking differential adds capability for challenging terrain.

Ram continues advancing trailer assistance with the push-button trailer steering knob, making hookup and backing maneuvers significantly easier. Drivers can use the knob to assist with backing up trailers, with the infotainment system providing graphics showing trailer direction and angle.

The system allows automatic trailer centering and helps maintain straight-line tracking to the destination. Ram provides live feeds including a digital rearview mirror with tow mode and a trailer-inclusive 360-degree camera system.

Enhanced features include an integrated brake controller, specialized trailering mirrors, trailer tire pressure monitoring, and light check systems. Ram navigation offers towing-specific route assistance to help find the best paths when pulling trailers.

The brand continues as the only truck manufacturer offering self-leveling four-corner air suspension, providing optimal ride quality and load management regardless of cargo or trailer weight.

The 14.5-inch touchscreen continues as the flagship display option, working alongside the well-regarded 8.4-inch and 12-inch UConnect screens. The top choice pairs with a 12.3-inch digital instrument panel, offering split-screen capability for simultaneous infotainment and navigation viewing.

An available passenger-side 10.25-inch screen is a class exclusive. Front passengers can utilize the screen for navigation, camera system access, and smart device mirroring via HDMI for entertainment content.

Atlantis electrical architecture enables over-the-air software updates, while smartphone integration allows the device to function as a digital key with comprehensive remote control capabilities.
