New Ramcharger Review
2026 Ram Rev in Phoenix, AZ
New Ram Rev Review | A New Kind of Hybrid Electric Truck
The new Ram Rev is a battery electric vehicle. It offers the best of electric capability along with the security of a gas-powered engine. This may sound like a traditional hybrid, but it’s actually an all new way of powering a truck.
Of course, none of that matters if the truck isn’t super strong. Using a Q&A format, we’ll try to answer relevant questions in this new Ram Rev review.
What is the New Ram Rev?
The 2026 Ram Rev -- originally known as the Ramcharger -- is a light duty, full-size truck with a 663-horsepower hybrid electric system. It offers a top towing capacity of 14,000 pounds as proof of its high-strength build.
Ram Rev trucks are able to offer remarkable power and a very long driving range. These trucks are offered with top technologies and features in top trims like the Limited and Tungsten.
Unlike traditional hybrid powertrains, the RamCharger’s gas engine doesn’t use its fuel to create horsepower directly. That’s why this plug-in hybrid is unlike any PHEV on the market today.
What is the Battery-Electric Range?
Leading the light duty class, the battery-electric Ram Rev can go for up to 690 miles (estimated) with its combination of gas engine and electric power. Alone the electric battery could run for about 140 to 150 miles. However, with the 27-gallon gas tank, it has a gas-supported source of electric energy. This gives it an extended range.
Furthermore, when you plug this in to capture energy, it has a DC fast charge rate of up to 145 kW. It’s faster than some electric vehicles and most PHEVs today.
According to Motor Trend, the Ram Rev has the energy to challenge traditional-engine rivals and some EV trucks. It generates 7.2 kWh while the Hummer EV can generate only 6 kWh.
Is the Ram Rev a Plug-in Hybrid?
Ram engineers devised a new type of hybrid powertrain. Instead of running the vehicle in a traditional manner, the job of the Pentastar V6 is to move power to its engine-mounted generator. That’s why this truck had to have its own name, and Ram Rev is an excellent choice for this hard-working battery-electric vehicle.
The 92 kWh battery pack then works with the 130 kW generator to move the power seamlessly to 250-kW front and 238-kW electric drive modules (EDMs).
Allowing engineers to eliminate the heavy transmission and four-wheel drive systems, the front and rear EDM function as dual motors, dual gearboxes and dual power inverters. The Ram Rev powertrain can favor front-wheel drive thanks to its automatic wheel-end disconnect, or it can create all-wheel drive as needed.
How Fast is the Ram Rev?
Despite its full size body-on-frame truck architecture, the new Ram Rev can make the 0 to 60 mph sprint in 4.4 seconds. The 2025 Ramcharger uses its dual motors to create 663 horsepower and a combined rate of 615 lb-ft of torque. The front motor generates 335 horsepower by itself while the rear motor is capable of generating 380 horses.
With its blockbuster combination of power and strength, it will handle up to 2,625 pounds of payload. The Ram Rev tow rating is a remarkable 14,000 pounds. Motor Trend notes that these numbers push the Ram 1500 toward heavy duty pickup territory.
Meanwhile, no other truck can offer the same performance, tow ratings and payload capacity while also offering the incredible driving range of 690 miles (estimated).
Can the Ram Rev Power a Home?
Just like an electric vehicle, the Ram Rev could be used to power a home in an emergency. It has a 7.2 kWh onboard power output, and you can use 120 volt or 240 volt cord to transfer the energy. This unusual plug-in hybrid can even recharge itself since it has gasoline. That makes it superior in some ways to the new EV trucks.
So, if you need vehicle-to-load bi-directional charging, the Ram Rev is your truck. It can provide power for appliances on a worksite, in the backyard or in a farm field. Plus it is also capable of vehicle-to-vehicle charging, to assist another driver in need of power. This is accomplished through a convenient power panel located in the Ram Rev bed.
This is just another way that Ram trucks are being designed to work hard for their owners. If you are ready for a new truck, check out our Ram inventory.
How Does Ram Rev Architecture Affect Handling and Ride Quality?
To build this light duty truck, Ram utilizes a special new STLA frame platform. This is wider in the middle to allow for a protected positioning of the battery pack. Designed specifically for electric Rams, the body-on-frame design has traditional Ram strength to ensure maximum capability.
Ram is known for its ride quality, and the Ram Rev will not disappoint. It has the multi-link independent rear suspension that improves handling and ride quality. Plus it has the exclusive Ram air suspension.
This system has four-corner active leveling. This can sense the payload and alter the bed to adjust the weight more evenly. It may lower an empty bed to lessen power consumption. Drivers can use the entry/exit mode to make loading and unloading easier. They can use off-road 1 or off-road 2 modes for cluttered works sites or trail adventures.
Does the Ram Rev Have Autonomous Driving Modes?
Ram is offering several of its most autonomous systems. Hands-free Highway Assist can be used on approved roads. It has the ability to deal with most driving tasks such as acceleration, deceleration, curve control, and lane centering. It can even verify if the driver is paying attention.
An additional autonomous system is ready to take care of parallel and perpendicular parking. This uses sensors, radar and cameras to determine when it can be used. Then it can take over the whole parking process, making things easy on the big rig’s driver.
