New Ram RHO Review | 2026 Marks an Exciting New Model
Trading V8s for turbo V6 performance, the 2026 Ram RHO takes the spotlight on the track, the road, and the trail. It’s like nothing before it.
This fast-moving, super-smart pickup is here to teach the Ford Raptor a thing or two. Let’s take a look.
RHO = Ram High Output
RHO is an acronym for Ram High Output, and that’s no joke. The key is a Hurricane straight-six turbo. To achieve the highest output, the twin turbos are a special low-inertia Garrett design.
Launch control helps shave time off the 0-60 mph sprint. The reported 4.6 second jump is excellent. Even more promising, it was done in 3.9 seconds by the MotorTrend test drivers.
This engine weighs 150 pounds less than the outgoing V8. In fact, the design reduces weight at the front end for a better front/back weight ratio. An 8-speed automatic transmission provides precision gear shifts.
Special devices help remove moisture and debris as the gas moves through the engine. Other special features help maximize oil lubrication and better direct the exhaust. These include a water-draining hood scoop, an open-top air box design, a high-flow radiator filter, a special oil pan design, and an H-pipe with the equal-length exhaust pipes.
The critics at Kelley Blue Book seem sold on the new truck. Their first look Ram RHO review calls it the best off-road truck you can afford.
Size and Style
If you compare the TRX to the new Ram RHO, it may seem bigger, but it’s not really. The illusion is created by its extra-wide composite fender flares that make it 88 inches wide. The grille seems larger due to its larger flow-through Ram badge.
Just for fun, the new lights may flash in a special sequence to mark your approach or departure. They also respond to the remote starter. Oversize tow hooks and available truck-length rock rails speak to its willingness to take on the toughest assignments.
Motor Trend says it nails the Baja truck look. What do you think? Head to your Phoenix Ram dealer -- Earnhardt CDJR -- to see how the new RHO compares to the regular RAM lineup. It’s fun just to check out the latest options. If you are interested, you can get competitive loans and leases from our financing department.
BorgWarner Full-Time Four Wheel Drive
Motor Trend calls it a dune-jumping beast. In their first review, critics write that it may be the best Ram sport truck to date.
The key to its capability is a BorgWarner full-time 4WD transfer case. This 49-13 unit provides an incredibly efficient 2.64:1 low range. The special front suspension allows for 13 inches of wheel travel while the special rear suspension allows for 14 inches of wheel travel.
Compared to the 2026 Ram 1500, the RHO is two inches taller. This boosts its ground clearance to 11.8 inches. To handle water obstacles, this off-roader can wade up to 32 inches.
To allow for some rear-wheel driving antics, the Baja mode shifts the split from 50 to 75 percent for the rear wheels. This alone suggests more fun on our desert trails.
Towing and Hauling
With its slightly lower weight, the Ram RHO has better towing capacity than the outgoing Ram TRX. This means you can work harder as well as play harder.
When you have a backyard chore to do or if you use your truck for work, you’ll be glad to know that payload rises to 1,520 pounds, a 210-pound boost.
Tow ratings rise to 8,380, a 280-pound boost. That’s a plus if you are loading up your camper with kayaks, bikes and other big toys.
