A 2018 Jeep Renegade on a dirt road.Jeep’s lineup is short but sweet. Their vehicles are exclusively SUVs, and unlike some sport-utility vehicles, every Jeep can come with true four-wheel drive and a list of features that make them ready for an off-road trail. Jeep currently offers six models, and you can group them into three basic categories.

The Wranglers

2018 saw the debut of a brand-new generation of the classic Wrangler. The new model is bigger, more efficient, more modern, and more versatile, and at the same time, it stays true to the same basic design and intentions that made the original Willys Jeep such an iconic vehicle. New features include a standard touch screen, available driver assistance features, and an available steel bumper ready for a winch accessory.

However, that’s not the only Wrangler currently for sale. Jeep is also offering legacy models of the older generation as the 2018 Wrangler JK, with JL being the new generation. The Wrangler JK doesn’t offer as many features or modern conveniences as the new Wrangler JL, but it’s still a great off-road vehicle. If you want an SUV that can go just about anywhere and you want it for a bargain, then you may want to take a look at the Wrangler JL.

The Compacts

Setting the Wrangler aside, Jeep is offering subcompact and compact crossovers with a more modern design. The subcompact is the Renegade, a small but very sporty model with an MSRP that never goes above $30,000, even when you look at the top trims. And while the Renegade is small, it still comes with an available 4×4 drivetrain and a Trail Rated Trailhawk trim.

Just above the Renegade is the new Compass. The Compass is just behind the Wrangler as the newest model in Jeep showrooms, so you can count on seeing modern features like a keyless entry system, a high-tech interior, and a new Active Drive 4×4 system.

The Big Boys

The two biggest vehicles Jeep makes are the Cherokee and Grand Cherokee. The Cherokee is a midsize crossover, and they’re already selling 2019 models with a change to the front end appearance. As a larger model, the Cherokee comes with features you can’t get on the smaller models, and you can expect even the base model to come with a 7-inch touch screen and the Selec-Terrain system on models with four-wheel drive.

The Grand Cherokee gives you even more — more space, more features, and more high-end trims. The Grand Cherokee only has two rows of seats despite its size which is good news for families that don’t need to carry seven passengers, and the high-end trims come with some of the most advanced off-road parts the company makes. This includes the SRT performance trim and the new Trackhawk.

Jeep doesn’t have as much variety as some brands, but you don’t need variety when car buyers know exactly what they can expect from your brand. The new Wrangler is still one of the best off-road vehicles on the market, and every other Jeep offers a Trailhawk trim that’s ready for your national park vacation.
