If you are looking for a midsize truck, you are probably wondering about towing capacity and payload ratings.  Well, the 2024 Jeep Gladiator is a good place to start. The Jeep pickup is your best bet for trailering, and here’s what you should know to get the best one for your work needs or big adventures.

As you seek out your trim level favorite, these are the issues to consider:

  1. Automatic or Manual Transmission
  2. Gas-Powered V6 or EcoDiesel
  3. Off-Roading Capability (Weight of Equipment, Suspension, etc)
  4. Type of Tires (Off-road vs On-road, etc)
  5. Eligible for Max Tow Package (Automatics only)
  6. Best Axle for the Job (With Max Tow Package)
  7. Maximum GVWR (Gross Combined Weight Rating)

How to Understand Gladiator Tow and Payload Ratings

With the gas-powered V6, the maximum towing capacity is 7,650 pounds.  With the EcoDiesel, that number rises to a maximum 7,700 pounds. Either tow rating offers plenty of wiggle room when it comes to which camper trailer the truck can handle.

For instance, you could pull a typical 31-foot camper weighing in at 6,600 pounds. That gives you 1,000 pounds of wiggle room, and you’ll need that for the weight of the gear that you’ll add to the camper.

In another instance, you could pull a typical 25-foot camper weighing in at 5,500 pounds. That gives you a huge 2,200 pound margin for gear.

For a boat, you’d add the weight of the boat and trailer to determine how much overall weight that the Gladiator will be pulling.  A 5,000-boat with a 1,000-pound trailer would be a safe bet. That would leave room for you to load supplies into the boat for hauling.

TOWING TIP: An available 4x Zoom can be added to the back-up camera to make hooking up easy.

Which Model Has Best Tow Ratings?

The 2024 Jeep Gladiator models with the best ratings tend to be properly equipped Sport and Sport S. They are generally the lightest weight of the lineup. Trail go-getters such as the Overland and Mojave will max out at a 6,000-pound tow rating while the high-strength Rubicon can handle 7,000 pounds, when properly equipped.

Can Manual Transmission Gladiators Tow? Well, Gladiators with manual transmissions are plenty tough. They can hndle 4,000 or 4,500 pounds when it comes to towing capacity.

That’s still a good number, and there are many smaller campers designed for this capability. It’s more than enough if you are pulling a trailer with a pair of Jet Skis, snow mobiles, kayaks, or personal ATVs. It’s more than enough for a trailer and a 2,000-pound fishing boat.

What is the Payload Capacity?

Top payload ratings are 1,725 lbs. To achieve the best ratings for a trim, the Max Tow Package and best axle are often needed.

For those who use their truck for work — or who do lots of projects — that’s an excellent amount for handling lumber, heavy tools, and other necessities. If you are big on adventure, the bed should handle all of your camping equipment from camp stoves to kayaks.
