As an upscale brand, Chrysler vehicles cost a bit more than their competition. Thanks to its advanced engine, the Pacifica Hybrid costs a bit more than the regular version. However, you get a lot more than just a name when you buy Chrysler’s most advanced minivan. You get one of the best and most spacious family vehicles on the road, one with advanced interior features and the most efficient engine to ever be in its class.
The Engine
The 2018 Pacifica Hybrid isn’t just a hybrid, it’s a plug-in hybrid that can go up to 33 miles on nothing but battery power. If your errands don’t take you far from home and you always plug in when you park, you can go for days without using any gasoline. In this mode, the Pacifica Hybrid has 84 MPGe, but even when the 3.6-liter engine turns on you’ll still get 32 combined mpg and a driving range of 566 miles. That’s a lot more than what the regular Pacifica offers, which otherwise leads the class with 22 combined mpg.
The Interior Space
Minivans are the roomiest class of family vehicle, so it should be no surprise that all three rows and seven seats of the 2018 Pacifica Hybrid have plenty of room for children or adults. You also have more than enough space for a big vacation: the rear cargo area starts with 32.3 cubic feet and expands to 140.5 cubic feet once you fold up the two back rows. The hybrid battery packs mean you don’t get the Stow ‘n Go seat compartments for the second row but otherwise, the Pacifica Hybrid has the same interior space as the gasoline version.
The Entertainment System
The 2018 Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid Limited trim comes standard with an 8.4-inch touch screen for the main console, built-in navigation, active noise control, and 20 Harman Kardon speakers placed throughout the cabin. It also comes with Uconnect Theater, a backseat entertainment system that includes 10.1-inch screens in the backs of the front seats, a Blu-ray player, a 115-volt outlet for home electronics, two HDMI ports for accessories like gaming consoles, a touchscreen remote, and three-channel wireless headphones. HD Radio and a year of SiriusXM Radio also come standard on all three trims.
The Safety Features
The 2018 Pacifica Hybrid shares a Top Safety Pick rating with its gasoline version. It earned this by getting perfect marks on the crash safety tests and by coming with all kinds of useful safety features. Every Pacifica comes standard with eight air bags, LATCH anchors for child safety seats, and a rearview camera. Pacifica Hybrids also get standard features like blind spot monitoring, a rear cross-traffic alert, and rear parking sensors, plus the top model gets the Surround View Camera, the Full-Speed Forward Collision Warning Plus, and the Parallel and Perpendicular Park Assist.
